07 RETRO: THE FINALS - Games 4, 5, 6, and 7!!!
« on: March 04, 2010, 11:01:12 PM »
Game 4 @ Los Angeles

The Lakers burst out of the gates and smothered their opponent with 63 first half points while holding the Bulls to only 47.  As if to drive home a point, the starters still played on for LA even after enjoying leads of up to 25 points.  Gilbert Arenas, who topscored for the Lakers with 27 markers, committed a lot of errors during the game (8 TO's), but more than made up for this by handing out 14 assists.  Parker and Stackhouse backed up Arenas with their 24 and 22 points.

Lakers outrebounded the Bulls, 60-44 (Boozer cornered 18 boards).

David Lee led the Bulls with 22 points and 11 boards, with Wade tallying "only" points (on 10 of 28 shooting) and 8 steals.

Series tied at 2-2.

Game 5 @ Los Angeles

Dwyane Wade and the Bulls emphatically bounced back in Game 5 with a convincing road victory to give them a chance to win it in Chicago --- 122-104.

Wade was nearly impeccable in this contest --- 36 pts (16 of 24 FGs, 1 of 1 FTs), 6 rebs, 7 asts, 2 steals, only 2 fouls, and ZERO turnover.  The Flash's marquee performance blotted the brilliant game that Parker also put in (35 pts, 7 rebs, 6 asts).

Chicago lifted a page from the Lakers' recipe book for the win in Game 4 --- start out strong, but with a twist.  The Bulls was a mile away from LA at the end of the 1st quarter, 41-21, but allowed the Lakers to come back after 36 mins.   LA fought back to climb within 3 pts before the start of the 4th.

Los Angeles scored the first 7 points of the 4th to lead by 4 with 10 mins to play.  The Bulls sued for time to regain their bearing.  After the timeout, a pressing defense was thrown at the Lakers that practically broke the backs of the Tinseltown cagers.  Chicago outscored LAL 38-16 the rest of the way.

More than anything else, it was the Bulls stifling defense that assured the victory, forcing the Lakers to a sorry 39 of 96 shooting.  Chicago converted 54 of 107 FGs.

Chicago leads, 3-2.

Game 6 @ Chicago

Knowing that aggressiveness will be a key factor in the series, especially when you are in a hostile environment, Tony Parker played hard and courageously against DWade.  Firing shot after shot from the outside and in, penetrating the lanes with tenacity, and working overtime on defense, Parker wore out Wade, pushing the latter to shoot miserably from the floor --- 9 of 26.  The rest of the Bull runners were nowhere near average in shooting as well. Only Rashard Lewis shot 50% from the field --- 2 out of 4.

The prolific Frenchman once again filled the stat line --- 35 pts, 8 rebs, 2 asts, 3 steals, 2 blocks, and 1 turnover.

Jerry Stackhouse, who finished with 27 pts, ably filled in for Arenas below par performance in the scoring department.  Recognizing that his touch wasn't with him that night, Agent Zero concentrated on orchestrating the Laker offense, a move that netted him a total of 17 assists that went along with his 15 pts (7 of 19).

Series tied at 3-3.

Game 7 @ Chicago

With a very difficult task facing them, the Lakers had only one thing in mind when they entered Game 7 against a team who owned the best home record in the regular season --- Chicago already lost back-to-back home games in Season 2007-08.

The Purple and Gold Boys stuck to their mantra of "always start strong" as they built a 15 pt lead at the end of the 1st, 38-23.  TJ Ford and Wade, however, conspired in the 2nd quarter to trim the gap down to 6 and put them back in contention after 2 periods.

Chicago became the matador in the 3rd, frustrating the Lakers' in each possession.  The Bulls defense forced the Lakers to commit 7 of their 13 TO's in the 3rd canto alone, while virtually challenging each shot attempt with a foul.  Chicago took the 3rd, 21-19, and properly positioned themselves for the finishing charge.

In the 4th, the Bulls became the bull and the Lakers became the Matador.  With Parker practically firing aimlessly (despite this TP still finished with 22 pts), Arenas put on a show, hitting 3 straight triples to keep the Bull run at bay.  When the clock ran down to meet the zeros, the Lakers were drowned by sighs of frustration and agony, which sounded like "Ole's!" to their ears....

Final count, Lakers in 7, 117-108!

For his outstanding performance, Tony Parker was awarded the Playoff MVP Trophy.  The Frenchman averaged 29.2 ppg (2nd best in the Playoffs), 4.2 rpg, 3.8 apg, 3.0 spg, making 49.4% of his shots from the field.

This has been a banner year for Parker, winning the 3PT Shootout contest, named to the All-League 2nd Team, highest season average for points at 30 ppg.

CONGRATULATIONS TO GM JEF0INKS and THE LOS ANGELES LAKERS FOR WINNING THE AH RETRO LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP FOR 2007-08, 4-3!!!!
